To visit local souqs (indoor markets) – this is the first thing you need to do in Morocco. It should be said that geographical position of Morocco at the crossroads of Africa and Europe had stimulated the trade. At one and the same time souqs are major features and the greatest attractions of Moroccan life. There the tourists can find craftware, ornately decorated tagine cooking dishes, leather belts and jackets, handmade jewellery and embroidered clothing superb, carpets. Pay attention that Moroccan carpets are not rather cheap. The works of famous Arab designs, sold in Fez or Rabat, usually coast thousands of dollars. Craft traditions are very strong, the souvenirs are mass-produced for tourists, so sometimes the quality of them leaves much to be desired. It is well-known fact that leather goods are sold in souqs throughout Morocco, but the best selection is represented in Fes. Look for the traditional Moroccan wear: caftans for women and the djellaba (a long garment with a deep, pointed hood) for men.
